Advertisement May 8th – Liberation Day | No to the language of power – yes to a culture of peace.
Initiated by the campaign „disarm instead of rearm“, the advertisement „May 8th – Liberation Day | No to the language of power – yes to a culture of peace!“, which was signed by over 2,000 citizens, appeared on a full page (page 7) in the Südddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) on 8 May 2020, the day of liberation. It emphatically points out the necessity of disarmament and a policy of détente.

Heute wurde der internationale Appell „Disarm! Don’t Arm!“ veröffentlicht, der auf dem deutschen Appell „abrüsten statt aufrüsten“ basiert und u.a. von mehreren Nobelpreisträger*innen gezeichnet wurde. Im Folgenden der Appell und die Erstunterzeichner*innen im Wortlaut.
Military spending must be decreased everywhere. Global arms expenditure is higher than at any time since WWII, and consumes 35 times the total cost of the entire United Nations system.
Now, NATO countries are being pressed to increase their military spending by a further 2% in the coming years. For European countries 2% GDP spending for the military means a minimum increase of 300 billion Euros (from 500 billion to 800 billion). Weiterlesen →
